Foxes can sound similar to dogs, but they also have their unique set of sounds. Their vocalizations vary depending on their emotional state, such as happiness, distress, looking for a mate, or warning others of a predator.

Foxes can make 12 different sounds including barking, growling, howling, yelping, laughing, screaming, and ‘gekkering’. Gekkering is a series of stuttering rather high-pitched throaty voices which are used when they meet a rival fox.

Screaming is a way to warn predators and other foxes that they are invading their territory.
When foxes approach each other, they produce a distinctive sound that resembles the sound of an owl's hoot, with a series of "wow wow wow" noises.
