Snow leopards make sounds similar to other big cats: purring, meowing, hissing, growling, moaning, and yowling. However, unlike other big cats, snow leopards cannot roar due to their throat anatomy and instead make a non-threatening puffing noise called a "chuff."
Snow leopards are often called the "ghosts of the mountains."
Their home's rugged, snowy terrain provides the perfect camouflage for their white-grey spotted coats, and their specialized adaptations, such as thick fur and large paws, allow them to thrive in harsh conditions.
They are skilled hunters, and their long tail helps them maintain balance while pursuing prey, and at night they use their tails as a warm cover while they sleep.
